TPLO Surgery
Rather than replacing the torn ligament, TPLO works by altering the angle of the tibial plateau. This neutralizes abnormal forward motion of the tibia (tibial thrust) during weight-bearing, allowing the knee to function without depending on the damaged ligament. Each patient is individually evaluated to determine whether TPLO is the most appropriate treatment option.
Every TPLO procedure includes thorough exploration of the knee joint to assess and manage associated pathology, including evaluation and treatment of meniscal tears when present. Addressing intra-articular damage at the time of surgery supports improved comfort and long-term joint function.
TPLO at State Avenue Veterinary Clinic is not simply about stabilizing the joint — it is about restoring biomechanics, comfort, and long-term function.

What’s Included in Our TPLO Care
TPLO surgery with a dedicated anesthetist
Most dogs regain excellent limb use and return to normal activity when post-operative guidelines are followed carefully. While we prefer to perform rechecks at our clinic for continuity of care, telemedicine video consultations may be used for select interim evaluations when appropriate. The final 10–12 week visit is performed in-clinic to obtain follow-up radiographs and confirm complete healing.
